Wood trim vs. composite trim

When you start looking at trim for your home how do you know which one to choose? There are so many options! Today we will take the confusion out of some of these options by discussing wood trim vs composite trim:

Wood trim-

Wood trim has been a long time favorite since it is easy to work with and takes paint very well. However, wood trim is definitely not what it used to be. Wood that is used for homes is no longer naturally harvested like it used to be. Now we are getting fast growing, farm raised, lumber that is far less dense and has a wider grain pattern. Basically this means that the wood typically doesn’t hold up like it use to in the past.

Composite trim-

There are so many types of products out there that mimic the look and feel of real wood. One product worth taking a look at is composite trim. Composite trim is manufactured from a combination of recycled wood fiber and plastic. It basically puts together the good parts of both wood and polyethylene to produce a trim that will not crack, rot, or absorb moisture. Plus with composite trim you don’t have to worry about termites! Another pro is that several composite products are 100% resistant to moisture, require no pressure treatment, chemical dipping, preservative treatments, water sealing or staining.
